Can I take Promethazine (Phenergan) if I'm taking Amoxicillin + Clavulanate Potassium Tablets? Is it ok to take that anti-nausea medicine while on strong antibiotics? I have been getting over Tonsilitis and am just finishing up my final tablets, but they are 875 mg every 12 hours. Thank you!!!

ItsMe replied: "Yes, in general, the two can be taken together. I have used Phenergan for years. I was placed on IV Antibiotics at home and the antibiotic was making me very sick, so my MD prescribed IV Phenergan to use along with the antibiotic. Talk to your Pharmacist to ensure it is okay. S/he knows everything you are taking and can tell you if there will be any type of drug interactions. Good luck to you. I do hope this helps. Me"

amoxicillin&clavulanate potassium with robitussin? can you take amoxicillin&clavulanate potassium together with Robitussin cough & chest congestion?

BeautyB replied: "As far as I kow antibiotics and over the counter medicine does mix, but if you are taking the antibiotics you will not need the Robitussin after 24 hours of taking the meds, as they will be doing their job. Follow the instructions on the bottle to the letter."

Amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium (Augmentin)? Hi, my sister has a swollen lymph node in her neck and the Dr has prescribed Amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium. At $60.00 a bottle, I am wondering if a cheaper antibiotic could have been prescribed?

Kelsey H replied: "You might want to ask the doc for a different drug. Amoxicillin isn't even effective for most people. I took it recently and was just blowing my money. The drug did nothing after I took three a day for three days. Ask for a Z pak."

Crouching Doggie replied: "Love, this is the generic of Augmentin, a very good drug. If you have no other means e.g. samples from the doctor, then the generic amox/clavulanate is probably the best thing for your sister. It's ridiculously expensive in the states, but it's worth it for her well being."

doktorangbaliw replied: "Get generic. Augmentin is Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid or Co-Amoxiclav. Your pharmacist can help you. Just make sure you get the same dose strength (if it says 375mg on the Rx make sure you get 375mg not the 625mg tablets)."

Can Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium (amox/kclav 875 mg) cause a yeast infection? I was prescribed it by my doctor for ten days, twice a day. Normal tablets. I had pneumonia. I was wondering if it could cause a yeast infection?

Tash replied: "yes"

BizelQue replied: "Yes"

Yodastattoo replied: "Amoxicillin can definitely cause one. My ex-girlfriend and my wife have both gotten them from amoxicillin. Sorry :-("

mommyliz86 replied: "yes any sort of antibiotic medication can cause one"

chuckyoufarley replied: "Yes!! I often get a yeast infection after any antibiotic. The antibiotic kills off the bacteria and the yeast have a party. It is very normal and totally sucks."

football playing son of a guru replied: "definitely"

murmuringmelody replied: "Amoxicillin can cause a yeast infection because it can kill the bacteria in your body that normally control things like yeast levels - eat plenty of yoghurt (you don't have to buy the fancy stuff, all yoghurt has "good bacteria")"

Sara M (Crazy Cat Lady) replied: "For females, unfortunately all antibiotics can cause yeast infections. This is because the antibiotics kill not only the illness causing bacteria, but also the good microbes which keep the vagina free of yeast infections. It doesn't affect every woman, but it is a possibility. Don't stop taking the antibiotics. Talk to your doctor about getting a one dose yeast infection treatment, like Diflucan (fluconazole 150mg)"

Judy replied: "yes. most antibiotics, can cause yeast infection."

Anyone take or did take Amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium pills for infection? I am taking the medication for a sinus infection. This medication is making me nauseated(which is normal) But I feel like I'm congested or I have a slight fever. I don't have shortness of breath or swelling so I don't know if its an allergic reaction. I have been taking Nyquil Sinus or Benadryl for the usual symptoms. I was just wondering if anyone had this reaction to the pills.

stereotypicalasian replied: "talk to your doctor"

Miko replied: "Stop taking it! I took it and developed an allergy to it after just once. See your doctor ASAP because if you have shortness of breath you can go into anaphylactic shock. It only caused my soft tissues to burn and chap but yours sounds serious."

Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium for strep? i was diagnosed with strep throat last wednesday. my doctor perscribed me with amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium tablets, which i am aware is the generic brand. anyway, how long does it take for me to start feeling better? i took the first dose that same wednesday and then on friday, my tonsils swell bigger than what they were! they also have a few white patches of pus. it is sunday, and i am not feeling any better. actually, i'm feeling worse. do i have something else, like mono or does it just take a while for this medication to work? no, i had no fever. not even when i was diagnosed with it.

Joanie replied: "The mixture they gave you is commonly referred to as Augmentin. Did you have a fever before starting the meds? Has it gone away? If so, then your meds are working. Give it a couple more days for it to fully take effect. Make sure you take every single dose as required. Strep is particularly sneaky and will come back on you if you give it a chance. You might even have a cold in addition to your strep (not unheard of)."

Jenni replied: "That medication is known as Augmentin. It's a good antibiotic. However, 5 days after you started taking it, you should be feeling better by now. You should go back to the doctor and let him know what's going on and he should prescribe something else, maybe something stronger. I don't think it's anything like mono or anything else, it could be that you have a antibiotic resistant strain of strep and that your doc needs to try a different antibiotic on you. I think you should make an appt and go back and see him. Take care! Good luck!"

pedidoc43 replied: "Augmentin (which is the trade name for Amox and clavulanate) will usually kill most strep infections as well as a few other bacterial causes of a sore throat. however -it is possible that you have a viral infection which antibx help. You could also have a tonsillar abscess- in which case you may need IV antibx or an Ear nose and throat consult- good luck"

CC replied: "You should be feeling better by now if you're following the instructions and taking the correct dose the correct number of times per day. Most of the time an antibiotic starts to produce relief in 24 hours (although you should still take the full course even if you feel better, or else the bacteria will re-multiply and come back stronger than ever). You've definitely given this drug enough of a chance to work. The bacteria in your body may not be susceptible to amox-clav, or you may have developed a resistance to it (this happens quite a bit, particularly if you've started a course of antibiotics without finishing it in the past, but even if you personally haven't done this, there are many bacteria floating around that have become resistant to antibiotics due to other people doing it). call your doctor or go to the ER and tell them you've been taking this antibiotic for 4 days with no reduction in symptoms. Take the bottle with you so they can see the exact dosage and instructions you were given. They can prescribe you a different antibiotic that fights a wider spectrum of bacterial infections, or perhaps a newer one that the bugs haven't built up a resistance to yet. Good luck and feel better!"

bactiman63 replied: "Amoxil will work on strep. You should feel better quite quickly. It could be viral. The majority of cases of pharyngitis are viral in nature (usually Epstein Barr)."
